Noor

Noor.

Meaning Light.

Radiance. Glow.

But Noor does not know

She is all that.

Instead, when the morning sun peeps in through her window,

She pulls the covers above her head

And wishes the light would go away -

Not remind her that another day

Is here.

On rainy afternoons,

Noor sits by her window,

And watches the sky darken

Wonders who reminds it afterwards

To clear out the clouds.

Who reminds it

That the dark is not here to stay

It will go away.

Sometimes,

[Just sometimes, mind you]

Noor wishes someone did that for her too.

When she is sitting amidst friends,

Noor likes to float away

And wonder how many of them will stay

Till the end.

And the ones who leave?

Why will they go?

Would it be because of her?

Or simply because sometimes it is impossible to know

Why the world pulls us apart.

Noor wonders the same about him too

How he will leave

If he will tiptoe his way out

His footsteps vanishing from the floor.

Noor thinks she will leave the door ajar

After he has left.

Just for a bit.

Just in case.

It is to let in the light, she will say.

Until the day

She's finally ready to close it all the way.

Noor - meaning light.

Radiance. Glow.

But Noor?

She doesn't know all that.

Instead

She knows that sometimes in the light

of the morning,

All she seeks is the comfort of the night.

She knows that after the sky cries its heart out

It remembers to tuck away the clouds.

[Just like she does, in the backpack she carries around.]

Noor knows that people go

That people stay

Either way

All you can do is leave your door ajar,

Tell the world it is to let in the light -

Radiance. Glow.

Noor.
