December 2023

Dear Writers,

Here we are, with our second issue. It’s also the last month of the year. 2023 will always be a seminal year for the Undiscovered Journal – the year many writers and poets found a gallery to present their art. We hope to always be discovered by people who have a story within them and want to be heard. For many of us, the year has galloped by in a haze of spiralling deadlines and colliding commitments. And we still found the time to write amidst all the madness. More often than not, writers have to find the space to create art in the middle of chaos, while wistfully dreaming of solitude by a lake, or a quiet room with a view in which one might write.

Here's hoping your Christmas miracle is a haven of peace. And may the new year bring joy, fulfilment and the creation of art for a better world.

Ring out the old, ring in the new,

Ring, happy bells, across the snow:

The year is going, let him go;

Ring out the false, ring in the true.

Ring out the grief that saps the mind

For those that here we see no more;

Ring out the feud of rich and poor,

Ring in redress to all mankind.

Ring out false pride in place and blood,

The civic slander and the spite;

Ring in the love of truth and right,

Ring in the common love of good.

Ring out old shapes of foul disease;

Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;

Ring out the thousand wars of old,

Ring in the thousand years of peace.

Excerpts from 'Ring Out, Wild Bells' by Lord Alfred Tennyson --

At the Undiscovered Journal, we are seeking to create a repository of good writing for fiction in India. We suspect that many of our writers of short fiction are lurking in the shadows of the novel, or simply trying to survive by clinging to a screenplay or, not to mention, have been elbowed out by non fiction.

Looking forward to more discoveries,

Scout
